Long-time member Sharon McNamara passed away unexpectedly last year. At the time of her death, she had been working with Local 34 Steward Gloria Lopez to resolve a dispute about her eligibility for the Scholarship for Sons and Daughters. Human resources said Sharon was not technically a full-time employee, even though she had been consistently working a full-time schedule for years. The Union argued that Sharon deserved scholarship money for her two sons as a full-time employee. After Sharon’s passing, the Local 34 committee at Yale Health worked tirelessly for over six months until we reached an agreement with management to secure the full payment of $30,400 for Sharon’s family.
